Nothing gives you a better opportunity for weekend getaways and sightseeing adventures than a motorcycle. These prized possessions offer you the perfect excuse to hit the open road on gorgeous spring and summer days. They also allow you to explore places you’ve never been before and meet new people along the way.

Unfortunately, there comes a time when you are forced to pack it up and store your motorcycle away for the winter. If your garage and driveway are already becoming crowded due to other vehicles and storage items, you may be left without a proper place to store your motorcycle. At RecNation, we can help by providing high-quality motorcycle storage. Storing your bike with us offers many benefits and resources to keep your motorcycle in optimal condition. Find your nearest RecNation to begin storing your motorcycle today.

Benefits of Motorcycle Storage

Even though it may be preferred to keep your motorcycle stored at your home for a quick getaway whenever you want, it may be taking up too much space when it isn’t being frequently used. This is especially true when the weather starts cooling down and those cruises down the highway become a little too cold. However, there are several benefits to storing your motorcycle at a RecNation facility.

First, if you are storing your vehicle in an indoor facility, you will be protecting it from natural elements such as rain, snow, sleet, and high winds. Added security measures at our RecNation facilities also offer a layer of protection against potential theft. Our facilities are conveniently located throughout several states, including Arizona, Florida, Kansas, and Texas. This allows you quick access to several major highways and interstates whenever you feel the need to get away for the weekend.

Features and Amenities at RecNation

In addition to the many benefits of standard vehicle storage awarded to you when you store with RecNation, you will also have access to several helpful features and amenities. As mentioned above, we provide several key security features to offer you peace of mind, including 24/7 video recording, perimeter fencing, and keypad access.

We also provide swing doors for extra width, easy parking, and a more user-friendly experience. You will also have access to electrical outlets in certain units in case you need to charge your vehicle’s battery during the offseason. Finally, we provide water on-site in case you need to give your motorcycle a quick wash prior to taking it for a spin. Enjoy these and many other features when you store your motorcycle with RecNation.

Preparing Your Motorcycle for Long-Term Storage

Keeping your motorcycle in pristine condition during storage starts with taking the right steps to prepare it for long-term storage. We want to help you with this preparation by offering helpful tips and advice for cleaning and performing proper maintenance prior to storing with us.

Cleaning Your Motorcycle

Prior to storing your motorcycle at RecNation, you will need to give it a proper scrub to prevent rust from forming. Warm, soapy water is perfect for scrubbing your motorcycle of dirt, grime, or dust that may have accumulated on it. You will also want to apply some WD-40 to a rag and wipe down all metal parts except the brake parts.

Once all the cleaning has been taken care of, apply a coat of wax on the painted areas of your motorcycle and buff it out. Some choose to wait until the spring to buff it off if they are only storing it over the winter. Whichever choice you make, you will want to make sure to invest in a proper cover for your motorcycle while it is being stored at your nearby RecNation facility.

Performing Mechanical Maintenance

The most important step when preparing your motorcycle for long-term storage is performing the proper maintenance. The first thing that will need to be taken care of is changing the oil and oil filter. You will also need to fill your gas tank and add a fuel stabilizer to prevent drops in temperature from causing rust.

If you own a carbureted motorcycle, you will need to make sure you get all the fuel out of the carbs so the jets and needles do not become plugged with the old fuel. One way to do this is to turn your fuel supply valve to the off position and let your motorcycle run until it’s out of gas. Next, you will want to plug the exhaust and airbox to prevent bugs from entering your motorcycle and inflate your tires or make sure your motorcycle is elevated. Finally, keep your battery charged using a trickle charger and store it in a climate-controlled environment.
