St. Petersburg, FL Climate & Your RV
St. Petersburg summers reach 85°F with high humidity, 38.1 inches of annual rainfall, winter lows of 57°F, and active hurricane season from June through November.
St. Petersburg's warm, humid climate and proximity to the Gulf Coast create both opportunities and challenges for vehicle storage. With summer highs around 85 degrees, high humidity levels throughout the year, and an annual rainfall of 38.1 inches, many boat and RV owners in the area benefit from covered or protected storage options. The hurricane season running from June through November adds another consideration for securing your investment during peak storm months.
Long-term outdoor parking in residential areas may also be restricted by local regulations, making a dedicated storage facility a practical solution for many owners. Whether you're storing a recreational vehicle between trips, protecting a boat during off-season months, or simply need a secure place to park when your driveway isn't available, RecNation offers flexible carport storage options across the Tampa Bay region.

Storage Options Available in St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg's subtropical climate makes the choice between storage types more than a matter of convenience. The combination of summer heat, persistent humidity, and significant rainfall means each option offers different levels of protection for your vehicle during storage.
Outdoor Canopy Storage
Canopy storage reduces direct overhead sun exposure and rainfall, which can be particularly valuable during the summer months and the active hurricane season. This option provides more protection from direct weather than uncovered parking while remaining more affordable than fully enclosed garage space.
Canopy storage represents a practical middle ground for owners who want meaningful weather protection without the higher cost of indoor storage. The covered structure helps limit direct UV exposure and keeps rain off the top of your vehicle, which matters in a climate that receives nearly 40 inches of rain annually.
Outdoor Uncovered Storage
Outdoor uncovered storage keeps your vehicle exposed to St. Petersburg's full range of weather conditions, including direct sun, humidity, and rainfall. This option typically offers the lowest price point, with outdoor uncovered storage at RecNation starting at $36 per month.
Uncovered parking works best for owners who use their vehicles frequently, prioritise lower monthly costs, or plan to store for shorter periods. If you choose uncovered storage in this climate, regular maintenance and protective measures become more important given the exposure to heat, humidity and rain.
Indoor Garage Storage
Indoor garage storage offers the greatest separation from direct sun, rain, wind and humidity among all available options. A fully enclosed space provides meaningful climate control compared to open-air storage, helping protect your vehicle's exterior and interior components from the persistent moisture and summer heat common in St. Petersburg.
Indoor storage is the most protective choice for vehicles stored long-term or during the hurricane season, when wind and heavy rainfall pose additional risks. This option works well for owners who prioritise maximum protection and are willing to invest in premium storage.

Florida HOAs typically restrict long-term RV storage in visible driveway locations, even though blanket bans are prohibited. Most St. Petersburg associations limit where you can park RVs on your property. RecNation carport storage facilities throughout Florida offer a compliant solution, keeping your RV accessible while respecting HOA guidelines and neighborhood aesthetics.
St. Petersburg’s mild winters (lows around 57 degrees) make year-round storage practical. However, hurricane season runs June through November with intense weather risk. Summer temperatures peak around 85 degrees. Consider covered carport storage during hurricane season for maximum protection, then transition to standard carport storage during calmer winter months when conditions are ideal.
St. Petersburg’s high humidity and 38 inches of annual rainfall create moisture and mold risks. UV damage from intense sun exposure is significant. Most critically, hurricane season (June-November) poses extreme wind and water damage threats. Covered carport storage is essential, providing shade from sun exposure and overhead protection from rain and storm damage while allowing air circulation to prevent moisture buildup.
